First US edition, 1934. Likely also a first US printing, but from an early run at the least - "Copyright, 1934, by Reynal & Hitchcock, Inc." on copyright page with no other printings listed. Hardcover in blue dust jacket under mylar wraps with blue boards, $1.50 publisher's price present on inside flap, unclipped. DJ frayed at edges, 1 in. open tear at top of front cover, partially obscuring "a" in title. Smaller 1 cm. tears at top of spine & base of back cover, mild edgewear throughout. Cover illustrations are clear & undamaged, book well-presented under mylar wraps. Spine cracked from use, but all pages secure. Gift inscription on illustrated flyleaf. Minimal yellowing to page edges. Text clean, no notes or underlining. A good copy overall, very scarce early US printing of the classic children's book.
