Our goal for Spring Awakening: 2020 is to highlight, exemplify and highlight notions of survival as well as the importance of racial and global citizenship while incorporating themes of advocacy, protest, personal and community responsibility. We look to celebrate all diversity and the acceptance of such notions. During this time of modern social distancing, we hope to draw parallels to the distance of the period of the show while bringing together a cast from various backgrounds, in a production accepting of and focusing heavily on the narratives of the characters through the perspectives of a cast featuring BIPOC, LGBTQ++ and Neuro-diverse performers and using their his/herstories as we develop their characters, in order to tell this story of intimacy and progressive and actionable process in the most effective and strong ways possible. With this production of "Spring Awakening" we have a challenging but desperately needed opportunity to lead the theatrical and artistic community in this time of darkness and dramatic change. Leading by example and showing that theatre is not only still possible, but viable and successful -- and that the artistic community is here, alive and ready to resume work in socially responsible ways, Spring Awakening: 2020 will prove that despite hardship, adversity can still be overcome, and the Arts are the masthead for Change and act as the voice of the Greater Good.
